Member of the Week: Alba Goens

Alba Goens of Gelsons #6 has been in the industry for more than 10 years. She was hired as a cashier.

Goens’s hobbies include walking, cake decorating, jewelry making, floral arranging and needlepoint.

When asked what inspired her to get more involved she said, “I wanted to learn more about the union and I care about my fellow employees. I can help them whenever they need to know their rights at work.”

Q: How would your life be different if you were not a union member?

A: “I probably wouldn’t have medical insurance or the job security we have as union employees.”

Q: If you could make a change in the workplace, what would it be?

A: “It would be that everybody would be treated equally and without favoritism. I would also like to be able to speak Spanish with my co-workers.”

Q: What is your greatest asset?

A: “My ability to communicate with people. I am friendly, easy-going and I care about others.”

Q: What in your life are you most proud of?

A: “My family. I am grateful to have 3 wonderful kids, my grandkids, and my health.”

Q: What do you like most about your job?

A: “I love working with people. I am good at getting along with others.”
