Member of the Week: Vincent Vandeth

Vincent Vandeth of Vons #2146 has been in the industry for 42 years. He started as a liquor clerk and box boy, moved to the night crew and is currently a cashier.

Vandeth’s hobbies include reading, gardening, motorcycles, body surfing, and most recently jet-skis.

When asked what inspired him to get more involved he said, “I had trouble a few years back with vacation. I wanted to go on one and was told by management I couldn’t. When I asked my rep about it, he let me know what my rights were and I ended up on vacation with my family. I got the help I needed and wanted to be a part of helping others. I started to learn more about our contract and how to explain it to others.”

“The union has been great, all three of my children have benefited from the scholarship program, and I have been able to provide medical benefits for my family for nearly 40 years. It’s a good job.”

Q: What is it you like most about your job?

A: “I don’t have the heavy pressures that a lot of people have at their jobs. I like coming in, doing my job and going home without having to bring that pressure with me. It’s a steady job, and I like it.”
