Member of the Week: Shawn Igercic

Shawn Igercic of Ralphs #295 has been in the industry for 14 years. He started as a Clerks Helper and is now a Meat Clerk.

Igercic’s hobbies include building a classic car (’63 Nova-big block), working on and building choppers, snowboarding, and studying the bible in Greek and Hebrew.

When asked what inspired him to get more involved he said, “I wanted to learn more about the union and be involved in the process. I wanted to be a leader and responsible so that what is in the contract is being enforced in the store and no one is being taken advantage of.”

Q: How would your life be different if you were not a union member?

A: “I wouldn’t have the job security and affordable health care that I do now.”

Q: What in your life are you most proud of?

A: “I am proud of the fact that I have studied hard and am able to study the word of god in both Hebrew and Greek.”

Q: What is your greatest asset?

A: “That I never give up.”

Q: If you could make a single change in the workplace, what would it be?

A: “I would want more help in our department. With the cut in hours, it’s impossible to get everything done the way it needs to be done in the time that we have.”
