Member of the Week: David Holguin

David Holguin of Ralphs #80 has been in the industry for 35 years. He worked in the meat department of individual markets before starting in the meat department of what later became a Ralphs. He is currently a Meat Department Manager .

Holguin’s hobbies include spending his Saturdays off on his little farm in Tustin. He cares for the horses, ponies, goats, chickens, pigs, bunnies, sheep and a goat with his spare time. He also enjoys mountain biking and surfing.

When asked what inspired him to get more involved he said, “Workers rights. There are those who don’t understand what their rights are and I like to do my part to educate them on their rights and what our contract does for us.”

Q: How would your life be different if you were not a union member?

A: “It would not be as good as it is; I wouldn’t be where I am. Competitors don’t pay like union jobs do, and don’t have the benefits we do.”

Q: What in your life are you most proud of?

A: “I am proud of my family and my kids.”

Q: If you could make a single change in the workplace, what would it be?

A: “I would want everyone to understand their union and what it stands for.”
