Member of the Week: Cecil Flores Jr.

Cecil Flores Jr. of Albertsons Warehouse has been in the industry for nearly 40 years. He was hired as a forklift driver and is currently a salvage and utility clerk.

Flores’s hobbies include recycling, taking care of his parents and spending time with his 10 grandchildren at their soccer and dance practices.

When asked what inspired him to get more involved he said, “As the foreman I wasn’t able to be a steward, but I always attended all the union meetings and I try to help where I can. Now that I am the steward, it gives me a chance to do more.”

Q: How would your life be different if you were not a union member?

A: “I worked non-union before and could never have raised four children and enjoy the life that we do. I also would never have worked for the same company this long if I didn’t have the benefits, job security, wages and retirement that I have.”

Q: What is your greatest asset?

A: “Helping others and teaching on the job. I like being able to help people learn what they need to be better on the job. I enjoy helping people understand the contract and procedures so that a solution to their problems can be found.”

Q: What in your life are you most proud of?

A: “Staying with the same company for nearly 40 years and 45 years of marriage.”

Q: What do you like most about your job?

A: “I love the changes that technology has made in our industry. There is always something new to learn.”
