Member of the Week: Vickie Frantz

Vickie Frantz of Albertsons #6124 has been in the industry for 30 years. She started out as a Clerk’s Helper and moved up to Grocery Clerk when the scanner system was first introduced. She currently works in the ‘Self Checkout’ station at her store.

Frantz’s hobbies include enjoying The Arts, history, old movies and a clever mystery. She also likes helping her fellow union members with her knowledge of workers rights, and the many benefits we share. She is also involved in causes like ‘Race for the Cure’, the Red Cross Blood Drives and takes the labor study courses offered at Local 324 each semester.

Frantz is also this year’s winner of the Matt Jefferson Award, an honor given to the Steward of the year at Local 324’s annual Conference. Frantz is recognized for her hard work as a Steward, her support and help during phone banking, precinct walking, and leafleting as well as her overwhelming support and solidarity.

When asked what inspired her to get more involved she said, “As a UFCW Local 324 member I have come to know the importance and the privilege of Union membership. As a shop steward it is an honor to welcome the newest members as well as informing, encouraging and helping my veteran brothers and sisters. The strike and lockout of ’03-’04 was a difficult, challenging yet enlightening experience for me. It showed me how union solidarity works (the power in our collectiveness) and inspired me to step up to help defend and preserve all that our Union stands for.”

Q: What do you like most about your job?

A: “Helping my union brothers and sisters, as well as being fortunate enough to live and work in Huntington Beach.”
