Member of the Week: Pam Gentzler

Pam Gentzler of the UFCW Food Trust Fund has been working at the Trust Fund since 1989. She started in the Medical Claims department, worked processing claims, and is now the department head in utilization review working with injectible medication claims.

Gentzler’s hobbies include camping and being a theater arts mom to her daughter in college. She also enjoys reading and watching movies.

When asked what inspired her to get more involved she said, “I wanted to participate in the process. I am sure at first I drove our rep crazy, but I am glad to be a bigger part of our union.”

Q: How would your life be different if you were not a union member?

A: “We would be truly at the mercy of the employer. They mess with us now, I can’t imagine how much more if we didn’t have back-up.”

Q: What in your life are you most proud of?

A: “My kids. I have three children, one still in college and two grandkids. ”

Q: If you could make a single change in the workplace, what would it be?

A: “Appreciation. I wish that the employer actually appreciated what we do.”

Q: What do you like most about your job?

A: “I like working with the members and problem solving. I like knowing that there is a solution to the problems our members have and that we can usually find a favorable solution.”
