Member of the Week: John Cole
John Cole of Ralphs #250 has been in the industry for 38 years. He started out as a box boy and is now a Produce Clerk.
Cole enjoys gardening and likes cacti. He also did commercials for Ralphs about 7 years ago (prior to the strike/lockout).
“When the steward for the store left I requested the position”
When asked what inspired him to get more involved he said, “My many years of service and deciding we need to take care of ourselves.”
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: “The flexibility of my schedule.”
Q: How would your life be different if you were not a union member?
A: “I wouldn’t still be working here. Having a union provided me protection on the job, and decent pay and benefits.”
Q: If you could make a change in the workplace, what would it be?
A: “I would like to have more help. Either more hours to get things done, or more people to help out.”
