Call to support AB 564: Cannabis Excise Tax Rate Freeze!
California’s Cannabis Industry is in Danger. Tell Your Senator to Act Now!
What’s Happening:
California law raised the cannabis excise tax to 19% on July 1st, up from 15%. A 27% jump!.
We, workers in the cannabis industry, know this will only allow illicit cannabis operators to flourish while harming the legal industry. The good news is that there is a bill that would set the rate back at 15%.
We need to speak up and get it passed.
First: Find Your California Representatives! findyourrep.legislature.ca.gov
Next: Call their offices and use the following script. The bill is up next week in the Senate Revenue and Taxation Committee, so the priority is calling your State Senator.
The best time to call is from 9am-5pm Monday through Friday to speak with their staff. It’s ok to leave a message.

Hello! My name is ___, and I’m a constituent of Senator _____.
I am calling to voice my strong support for AB 564 by Assemblymember Haney, to save the cannabis industry from an increase in the excise tax.
As a cannabis industry worker and a member of UFCW 324, I know how devastating an increase in this tax would be. We need to keep businesses in the legal market and continue to create good-paying, union jobs. We can’t afford to see more shops go under. This would only push more and more consumers to the illegal industry, where untested products could harm them.
Please support AB 564 when it comes before you in committee or on the floor. Thank you!
