Member of the Week: Marty Woods
Marty Woods of Ralphs #739 has been in the industry for 34 years. He started out as a box boy and is now a Meat Manager.
Wood’s hobbies include coaching and umpiring baseball, being a public address announcer at sporting events, singing, staying active with his church and his family.
“I actually was a box boy when Greg Conger, Jack Butler and Frank Simkins worked in my store. After Greg and Jack left Frank asked to have me as an apprentice. Now, of course, Frank is my representative.”
When asked what inspired him to get more involved he said, “Fair is fair and the industry was heading in a direction where the average worker is getting hosed. We need to fight for what we get, and what we deserve.”
Q: What do you like most about your job?
A: “I enjoy working with both the customers and my fellow employees. I’ve always said if you don’t enjoy what you are doing, do something else.”
Woods has also been on several game show pilots and was cast in a Mc Donald’s commercial about 10 years ago. He is also a member on the Executive Board here at Local 324.
