Member of the Week: John Bongiorno
John Bongiorno of Ralphs #287 has been in the industry for over 40 years. He started in the produce department at Alpha Beta which later became Ralphs.
Bongiorno’s hobbies include Listening to music, attending concerts and spending time at the racetrack. He started work with produce at a roadside stand on the East Coast at the age of 14, and has been doing it ever since.
When asked what inspired him to get more involved he said, “ I like being able to help fellow employees. I have been union all my life and believe in what is right. I have seen the differences that time has done to the industry and what companies do. It’s time they stop dragging their feet and get a contract.”
Q: What is it you like most about your job?
A: “I enjoy working with customers, and the various challenges my job presents. People don’t see what happens behind the scenes, but I deal with living product, and enjoy the challenge that presents.”
