AB 1776 – Preventing Anticompetitive Conduct that Harms Workers

From grocery stores to pharmacies – UFCW members are feeling the impacts of market consolidation with lower wages, fewer jobs and higher prices. Market concentration weakens workers’ bargaining power and erodes job quality, which is why UFCW is helping pass legislation to prevent anticompetitive conduct that harms workers.

But we need your help. Our priority bill, the COMPETE Act – AB 1776 (Aguiar-Curry), faces a tough vote in the Assembly Judiciary Committee on Tuesday.

AB 1776 (Aguiar-Curry) clarifies and modernizes California’s antitrust laws so markets reward innovation, investment, and fair play—benefiting businesses, workers, and consumers alike.

This is an important bill to ensure the ongoing strength of our union and to combat the rising cost of goods impacting our members.

Contact your legislator by phone using the script below. If the office doesn’t answer, please leave a message. Showing legislators the overwhelming support of UFCW members will help get this bill across the finish line.
