Buena Park, CA – Today, the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 324 applauded the defeat of the underhanded recall effort to remove Santa Ana City Councilmember Jessie Lopez from office.
“This is an overwhelming victory for working families in Santa Ana and shows the power that we have when we stand in solidarity with elected officials,” said Andrea Zinder, president, UFCW Local 324. “Voters in Santa Ana decisively rejected the special interests and their council allies who wanted to install a political puppet onto the city council.
“With council member Lopez’s support on the city council, Santa Ana leads Orange County and often California in policies that support working people, such as hazard pay for essential workers during the pandemic, rent control policies, and tax breaks for cannabis businesses who uplift workers. These are all issues that working people strongly support and they showed up in force when it counted the most to protect the progress the city has made. We’re proud to have defeated this underhanded recall effort.”
