UFCW 324 Mourns the Unexpected Passing of President Andrea Zinder

Buena Park, CA – Today, the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 324 is heartbroken to announce the unexpected passing of President Andrea Zinder on September 27, 2025. President Zinder was a compassionate and fierce labor leader with a vision to improve the lives of not only UFCW members but all workers nationwide.

Andrea began her career at the National Labor Relations Board, where she investigated unfair labor practices and advocated for workers. She then became the Director of Research and Collective Bargaining at UFCW 770. In 1997, Andrea joined the staff of UFCW 324 where she became the chief negotiator of the local’s many contracts. She was then elected as Secretary-Treasurer in 2003 and in 2019 she was elected as President of UFCW 324. Andrea also served as President of the UFCW Western States Council, on the California Board of Pharmacy, as chair of the Food and Drug Trust Funds and on the Drug Pension Fund.

Through the challenges of COVID-19, natural disasters such as wildfires, and civil unrest, UFCW members secured historic gains in contracts for thousands of members in the grocery industry, at Disney and Kaiser Permanente, in cannabis retail shops, at CVS, and for parking attendants, under Andrea’s guidance. Her leadership extended beyond our local area, and the impact of her work was felt throughout Southern California and beyond, reaching the UFCW International and the Labor Movement as a whole. She prioritized empowering members above her own ego and always led by example. Andrea was the first person on a strike line and the last one to leave after a 30-hour bargaining session.

UFCW 324’s hearts are with her husband James, sons Ben and Joseph, her Grandchildren and family.
