Stewards Program
One of the most valuable resources you will encounter in your working years is your Union Steward. A steward serves as the primary link between each individual worksite, your Union Representative and the union. Worksites the size of an average grocery store generally have a primary and secondary steward who receive regular training in how to monitor and assess a manager’s compliance with contract language.
A steward’s biggest impact will be to help you understand how the union impacts you professionally and personally.
A steward may act as your personal witness if you are being questioned by loss prevention or by management and are in danger of being disciplined.
You may require the assistance of one of our office professionals. Will you be best served by visiting our Health Benefits Department in our Buena Park headquarters or by speaking with your Union Representative? Your Representative will assist when conflicts arise between managers and members.
Local 324 is constantly implementing new and inventive ways to guarantee that your Union Steward knows how to handle common worksite issues you may encounter. Other times he or she will determine that the issue you’re facing is one for your Union Representative to tackle. Their knowledge of the collective bargaining agreement is of utmost importance when dealing with store managers and labor relations.
If your worksite’s Union Steward hasn’t already approached you, please seek that person out and say hello. You won’t regret it.
